Phenomenal, as always Jon. It rode the fine line between sorrow and compassion perfectly. The accompanying music was amazing and really put me in a good space to receive this story.
I like how you've weighed our essential humanity against the technology that has objectified us. The things that matter most can never be evaluated by a machine. You've demonstrated that incredibly well.
I concur! I like the lean back into pure humanness. We must preserve that as much as possible. Having experienced my own mother's passing almost in a similar manner, I revisited her last moment through your words. That's all the technology we need..
"Apparently, it's not as easy as pulling a plug." You deftly told a difficult story of good intentions and final wishes that so many of us will have to experience at some point in our lives - and it's never as easy as just pulling a plug. I really enjoyed the voice you used, the conflict in their heart, and the observations of the days that followed in their mother's collapse. Powerful stuff.
This was riveting. You’ve created a sadly believable world. Anyone who’s been in a similar situation with our current technology recognizes how wrenching it is to see a formerly vital loved one dehumanized, connected to machines. This reads as both a love story and a warning.
Wow, Jon. This was really beautiful. And the music was such a nice touch. The story captured well this difficult decision--the grief of saying goodbye and the compassion of honoring a loved one’s desires. Plus, the addition of a future that doesn’t seem too far off was great.
Was enjoying reading this yesterday, then halfway in, it sparked a vague story idea and I switched screens to write it down. Kept writing for several hours and forgot from where it came.
Found this again today and remembered not finishing. Now I did. Loved it!
Often with watching great movies, listening to good music, reading inspired writing it rubs off and I press pause to follow that lead....yesterdays little set up might be the beginnings of a new book. It has nothing to do with this story except the speculative where tech might lead us....so thank you for that.
This was really good... and realistic, we're getting closer to the situation you describe in the story (though I doubt if we will reach superintelligence with LLMs and Tree of Thought, it is most likely going to be a combination of some neurolinguistic models with enhancement from symbolic models for reasoning).

Wow. Thank you Jeff I am so happy you had a good experience with it. Appreciate you reading it.

Thank you! This was something i didn’t set out to do but came on its own as I was editing and revising. I love it when that happens.

Thank you Troy. As an empathy exercise, the voice really took a life of its own. Such an interesting project. Really appreciate your comments.
It felt very authentic. You did a great job.

Thank you! I agree. And never really thought about it until I started writing.
Wow! This was fantastic, Jon.
I was captivated by the concept, as I have long since feared that technology would hold us back from actually dying. Which you captured very well.
I was also completely enthralled by the writing, you conveyed so much with a relatively short amount of words.
A truly wonderful piece. Bravo :)
Thank you Michael. I really appreciate the feedback.
Well put.
Thank you, Adam :)
